What is wrong with challenging the whole ethos of "appointing a successor"? Where in our, admittedly, unwritten constitution, does it say that a serving PM can "appoint" a successor. If the PM were dead, or incapacitated, his deputy (heaven forfend) would take over. Gordon Brown is NOT his deputy, is NOT the leader of the Labour party - and I feel there is no guarantee that he will be - so why are we not challenging the assumption of "crown prince"?

I am not the only average "Joe" discussing this, but nothing very strong is coming out of either of the opposition parties.

As a "just" ex-councillor, and member of the Lib Dems, I am very disappointed about the 'lack' of strong comment.

Kind regards,
