Ming takes part in Community Canvass Week

Ming Campbell has been meeting residents in his North East Fife constituency and hearing their views as part of Ming’s Community Canvass Week. Hundreds of Liberal Democrats across the country are taking part, knocking on doors, surveying residents and canvassing.

While he was out, he recorded this short video, challenging Gordon Brown to call a general election:

Ming Campbell has today called for British troops to leave Iraq. You can back Ming’s call by signing his petition.

“It is time to recognise that British troops can do no more in Iraq.

“Their professionalism and dedication has been outstanding and their courage has been beyond belief.

“The Government is failing to answer the fundamental question about the military purpose they are serving and the political objective they are achieving by their continued presence.

“The level of casualties is unacceptable. We have a moral obligation to the young men and women of our armed forces.

“We should now set a framework for their withdrawal from Iraq.”

An unholy alliance of Tories and Labour

Ming Campbell has written an article about Tory MP David Maclean’s Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill:

This was a self-inflicted blow by Parliament which will deeply damage its reputation.

The Bill was voted through by an unholy alliance of Conservative and Labour MPs.

It was also given unofficial support from the Government which, unusually, did not block it at Second Reading and instead appeared content to have its own Freedom of Information Act watered down.
