[…] Ming Campbell has a new video on his campaign website, in which Nicola Davies (candidate for Birmingham Hodge Hill in the 2004 by-election) and Baroness Barker interview him about the women who have influenced him in his life and about his desire to see a more representative House of Commons. In it he commits to establishing a trust fund to help female and ethnic minority candidates. Posted in update | […]

Ming Campbell’s idea for promoting women for parliament is characteristically sensible and one which can be done. It is practical. I have long been an admirer of his because I agree with almost everything he says! He also states his opinions with a clarity that is almost absent from our political discourse. Wisdom is hardly a word that springs to mind when listening to most politicians but I think it could be applied to Ming. Since 1979, this country has been led by people who worship at the altar of market forces but we need politicians who put people first, who manage capitalism, not facilitate every demand of corporate greed. There are elements in the party that want to shift to the right in this respect and hope that Ming, if he becomes leader, will moderate this tendency.
