Blair should either resign or state a date

Commenting on speculation that Tony Blair will step down in a year, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ming Campbell, said:

This is no longer a matter of the convenience of the Labour Party and the ambitions of its senior members. What is at issue is the national interest, which is not being served by the continuing uncertainty over Mr Blair.

The Labour Party has created this situation and has the responsibility to solve it. Mr Blair should either resign or state a date.

One Response to Blair should either resign or state a date

  1. Lesley Roberts says:

What is wrong with challenging the whole ethos of “appointing a successor”? Where in our, admittedly, unwritten constitution, does it say that a serving PM can “appoint” a successor. If the PM were dead, or incapacitated, his deputy (heaven forfend) would take over. Gordon Brown is NOT his deputy, is NOT the leader of the Labour party – and I feel there is no guarantee that he will be – so why are we not challenging the assumption of “crown prince”?

I am not the only average “Joe” discussing this, but nothing very strong is coming out of either of the opposition parties.

As a “just” ex-councillor, and member of the Lib Dems, I am very disappointed about the ‘lack’ of strong comment.

    Kind regards,

    Lesley
