CAMPBELL COMMENTS ON RAF LEUCHARS RESTRUCTURING

Further to the recent news that the Ministry of Defence will amalgamate Squadrons 43 (F) and 56 (R) based at RAF Leuchars on 22 April 2008, North East Fife parliamentarians Sir Menzies Campbell MP and Iain Smith MSP have written to the Minister of State for the Armed Forces, The Rt Hon Bob Ainsworth MP, asking if there are any other changes due which will affect the base.

Commenting on the news, Sir Menzies and Mr Smith said, “As the Typhoons come on stream it is inevitable that there will be structural changes involving Tornado F3. We have written to the Minister of the Armed Forces asking if any other similar changes are in the offing and when Typhoons will enter service at RAF Leuchars.”

Dear Bob,

I am writing to you on behalf of myself and Iain Smith MSP to thank you for your letter of the 30th January about RAF Leuchars and the amalgamation of 43 and 56 Squadrons.

Can you tell us if any other similar changes are in the offing which would affect RAF Leuchars and when you anticipate Typhoons will enter into service at the base.

Yours sincerely,

Menzies Campbell
