Sir Menzies Campbell MP has welcomed the news that there is to be a review of the Common Fisheries Policy and has called for “particular care” to be given to the village based fishing industry in places such as North East Fife.

Sir Menzies said:

“There will be a universal welcome to a fundamental review of the Common Fisheries Policy. In truth, the best way to proceed is to start with a blank sheet of paper and to construct a policy which reflects reality. But particular care must be paid to the village based fishing industry in places like North East Fife.

“Local fishing interests have to put up with a great deal in recent times and their special features will have to be recognised in any review if their decline is to be reversed.”
