CAMPBELL COMMENTS ON BUDGET

Speaking after today’s emergency Budget, North East Fife’s MP Sir Menzies Campbell said:

“I very much regret the need to increase VAT but you must look at the budget as a whole. Labour’s irresponsibility has left the country’s finances in a dire condition and tough decisions were inevitable.

“But the increase in tax allowances will benefit those on low incomes. The restoration of the earnings link for pensioners will benefit the elderly, some of whom are the poorest in the country, and increasing child tax credit will ensure no further increase in the child poverty over which Labour has shamefully presided.”
