North East Fife MP Sir Menzies Campbell has highlighted RAF Leuchars’ role as a “centre of defence excellence†following today’s announcement from the MoD that around 200 RAF personnel from RAF Leuchars are to be deployed to Afghanistan.
6 Force Protection Wing HQ and 58 Squadron of the new RAF Regiment based at RAF Leuchars in Fife, plus reservists from 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron RAuxAF will be responsible for the security of one of the main NATO air bases in Afghanistan.

“This is yet another illustration of the overall contribution which RAF Leuchars makes to the defence of the United Kingdom. Leuchars in truly a centre of defence excellence. Everyone from the local community with which the military personnel at Leuchars are so closely integrated will want to wish them god speed and a safe return”
