Brown’s Iraq solution must be withdrawal of troops

Responding to Gordon Brown’s first interview with the Today programme since launching his leadership campaign, Liberal Democrat Leader Menzies Campbell said:

“In spite of having been by Tony Blair’s side throughout the debacle of Iraq, and having signed the cheques, Mr Brown was unable to point to a clear way ahead.

“As the American Congress, Republicans and Democrats alike, begin the process of imposing a change of policy on President Bush, the Prime Minister to be was disappointingly imprecise.

“The solution staring him and President Bush in the face is a framework for phased withdrawal.”
