Jobseekers in North East Fife outnumbered job vacancies by ten to one in January 2009, up from five to one in December 2008.
Commenting on the figures, Sir Menzies Campbell said:
“There are now more unemployed people in North East Fife chasing fewer jobs. The task facing those desperately trying to get into work has never been more challenging.
“The Government needs a reality check. It must end its obsession with gimmicky measures like the VAT cut and focus on job creation as a matter of urgency.
